It’s blackberry season right now, so it’s the perfect time to make Homemade Blackberry Crisp! This crisp is loaded with juicy blackberries bubbling under the crisp buttery crumble topping! It’s the ideal end-of-summer dessert!

And if you don’t like blackberries, swap them for another berry like strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries.

We live in the PNW, and there are blackberry bushes growing literally everywhere! They grow like weeds! So yesterday, we picked pounds of fresh, sweet, huge blackberries!

Summer is speedily coming to a close, so we are trying to take advantage of all the fresh fruits and berries before the pumpkin spice season starts!

We are imagining this is the kind of dish that you bring to a barbeque or potluck. Or maybe it’s for sitting out on the front porch, enjoying the last days of summer! Or just possibly, you may be making this in the middle of December, because you want to use up all of those frozen blackberries. Any way you decide to enjoy it, it’s always delicious!

It’s blackberry season right now, so it’s the perfect time to make Homemade Blackberry Crisp! This crisp is loaded with juicy blackberries bubbling under the crisp buttery crumble topping! It’s the ideal end-of-summer dessert!


Ingredients

Blackberry Filling:

-5 cups blackberries (fresh or frozen)

-1/4 cup granulated sugar

-3 Tbsp. flour

-Zest from 1 lemon

-Juice from 1/2 a lemon

Crumble Topping:

-1 1/2 cups oats (quick or rolled oats)

-1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

-1/4 cup flour

-1/2 cup melted butter

-1/4 tsp. salt

-1/2 tsp. vanilla extract


Instructions

1. In a large bowl, add in 5 cups of blackberries, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 3 Tbsp. flour, Zest from 1 lemon, and Juice from 1/2 a lemon. Stir until combined.

2. Pour the blackberry mixture into a 2-quart baking dish, and spread it out evenly.

3. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together 1 1/2 cups oats, 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, 1/4 cup flour, 1/2 cup melted butter, 1/4 tsp. salt, and 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract.

4. Pour the crumble mixture over the blackberries and spread it out evenly.

5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown, and the berries are bubbling through.

6. Let cool slightly before serving.
