Pumpkin Spice Latte

Here’s how we make our version of the hugely popular Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks! *Spoiler: Our Homemade version is better!* It’s warm, delightfully sweet, and has all of your favorite autumn spices! You are going to absolutely love this recipe!

The mornings here in the PNW are starting to get cold and crisp, so the only thing we want to do is wrap ourselves around a warm fuzzy blanket, and sip on this warm, Pumpkin Spiced Latte! We don’t drink coffee, mainly because we are 14 and 12, but this drink is an exception!

When we were testing this recipe, we had a sample of it before adding the coffee, and IT WAS SO GOOD! It’s like a Pumpkin Hot Chocolate, without the chocolate! So, if you aren’t a coffee fan, you can still enjoy this classic autumn drink!

For getting one at Starbucks, it’s like 5 dollars?! That’s crazy! This one is so much better and doesn’t have a LONGGG list of ingredients that are hard to pronounce. You save a bunch of money too! A win-win, right?! Not trying to hate on Starbucks though! It definitely has its place!

Recipe Overview:

Milk: We used 1% milk, but any other type of milk will work!

Pumpkin Puree: Make sure that it’s just plain pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling.

Sugar: When we were testing this, we tried it with brown sugar. And it just didn’t have the best taste, so we recommend white sugar.

Pumpkin Spice: Pumpkin is pretty bland on its own, so this is what gives it that pumpkin flavor that everybody relates to!

Vanilla Extract: Adds a lot of flavor!

Salt: This one is also for added flavor. Trust us on this, it really makes a difference!

Coffee: We used dark roast.

We feel like the latte is getting too much attention (as it should), but let’s talk about the whipped cream! This homemade whipped cream takes only a couple of minutes, and it is so worth it!

When we were little we used to just eat a bowl of whipped cream, on special occasions. It was just so good! We can’t be the only ones who did that!

Let's Make a PSL!

For Latte:

1. In a saucepan, over medium-low heat, add in 1 cup milk, 1/4 cup pumpkin puree, and mix until pumpkin puree is combined.

2. Now add in 3 Tbsp. white sugar, 1/2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice, 2 tsp. vanilla, and 1/8 tsp. salt. Stir until everything is dissolved.

3. Mix in 1/2 cup hot coffee.

For Whipped Cream:

1. In a bowl, whip together ½ cup of heavy whipping cream and 2 Tbsp. white sugar until stiff peaks.

We topped ours with (besides the whipped cream) some pumpkin spice and a cinnamon stick, and we think it looks pretty cute! But of course, if you prefer, it’ll still be delicious without any toppings!

P.S. Enjoy this drink with your favorite mug! It really does make this drink that much better!
