Detroit Style Pepperoni Pizza

This Detroit Style Pepperoni Pizza is easily one of the best pizzas you’ll ever have! The thick crust is Foccacia-like. It’s bubbly, soft, fluffy, and crisp on the edges. The top is layered with cupped pepperoni, homemade pizza sauce, and lots of mozzarella cheese! It’s so good!

Typically, pizza is thought of as a harder and more time-consuming recipe to make. But the total time to make this pizza is only about two hours! In two hours, the whole pizza will be done and ready! Like how amazing is that!?

We have gotten a few requests to make pizza, so we thought why not make Detroit-style pizza? We’re sure you guys will love it, and honestly, it’s way easier to make than regular pizza!

Ingredients:

Warm Water: The water should be heated to about 110 degrees F.

White Sugar: Just a bit of sugar helps activate the yeast.

Yeast: This recipe calls for active dry yeast.

Flours: In this recipe, we use a mix of both bread flour and all-purpose flour. The bread flour gives the crust a nice chew.

Salt: Salt is a must in almost everything! Also, be sure to use kosher salt.

Olive oil: Some oil of added to the dough, and the other half is for the pan.

Thick-cut Pepperoni: Be sure to use large pepperoni, so they crisp and curl up.

Pizza sauce: We used homemade, but store-bought will also work in a pinch.

Mozzarella: Use cubed cheese, because traditionally, in Detroit-style pizza, the cheese is cubed, and not shredded.

Italian Seasoning: Just a bit to sprinkle on top of the pizza before baking for some extra flavor.

Fresh Basil: We love garnishing it with basil because basil adds such a nice flavor and color.

What is Detroit Style Pizza?

Detriot Style Pizza is a deep-dish pizza, made with a focaccia-like dough that’s soft an bubbly and gets crispy on the bottom. Traditionally, it’s made with Wisconsin brick cheese, but that can be difficult to find, so we use mozzarella cheese that’s cut into cubes, rather than it being shredded. Lastly, it’s also usually topped with lots of pepperonis that curl up into crispy cups while baking. So good!

We know once you guys try this, it’ll be your go-to! It sure is ours! It comes together in less than 2 hours, and is perfect for a party! (:

1 tsp. white sugar

2 tsp. active dry yeast

2 Tbsp. olive oil, divided

7 oz. thick-cut pepperoni

1/2 cup pizza sauce

2 cups cubed low moisture mozzarella cheese

1 Tbsp. Italian seasoning

fresh basil (for garnish)

Instructions
