You guysss! It is officially Spring, so what better way is there to celebrate than with these Lemon Lavender Sweet Rolls! When we were deciding our next recipe, we knew we wanted to do something fun and festive, but also a sweet breakfast or brunch recipe!

Well that description definitely fits these! If you know us, we absolutely loveee anything to do with lemon lavender flavor and cinnamon rolls. So, we decided to combine the two of them, to get the best of both worlds, while still staying on theme!

Lemon Lavender Sugar:

The filling for these sweet rolls is a lavender lemon infused filling. So essentially, to make that, we start with a lemon lavender sugar. It’s really simple to make and takes these sweet rolls to the next level! To make it, just mix together white sugar and lemon zest. Then with clean hands, massage the zest into the sugar. This infuses the sugar, and gives it a strong lemon flavor. Next, add in the lavender and just repeat the process! And there you have the lemon lavender sugar! To make it a filling, just mix it together with softened butter.

That’s another thing that’s so great about these sweet rolls. We adore the lemon lavender flavor combination, so we wanted to add in as much of it as possible. So we decided to be a bit extra and added lemon and lavender into both the filling and the cream cheese frosting!

Another thing we love about this recipe is how simple and quick it is. The brioche dough is really simple to make. Basically, all you have to do is add the ingredients together, knead it, then let it rise. After that, you just have to assemble the rolls, bake it in the oven, then frost them with that amazing cream cheese frosting!

We add on a bit of melted butter to the tops of the rolls right before baking. This creates a rich and gooey texture, and also adds a nice flavor! It also makes the rolls look prettier, as it helps them to brown more evenly, while baking.

And although it’s optional, we definitely recommend decorating your sweet rolls! They’re already gorgeous as is, but we like to add on a couple lemon wedges, a long with a sprinkle of the culinary lavender.

Description

These Lemon Lavender Sweet Rolls are sweet, soft, fluffy and perfect for Spring! Each roll is a sweet brioche bread, rolled with a lemon and lavender infused filling, and topped with an irresistible cream cheese frosting! The flavor combination is just as delightful as it sounds, and everyone will love these!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Rolls:

1 cup milk, heated to 110 degrees F

2 + 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast

1 large room temperature egg

2 Tbsp. melted butter, divided

4 Tbsp. granulated sugar

1/2 tsp. salt

3 cups all-purpose flour, plus 2-4 Tbsp

For the Filling:

1/3 cup white sugar

zest from 1 lemon

2 tsp. culinary lavender

1/2 cup softened butter

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

4 Tbsp. softened butter

4 oz. softened cream cheese

1 Tbsp. lemon juice

1 tsp. culinary lavender

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 cup powdered sugar

purple gel food dye, optional

Instructions

1. To a large bowl, add in 1 cup warm milk, 2 + 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast, 1 large egg, 1 Tbsp. melted butter, 4 Tbsp. granulated sugar, and 1/2 tsp. salt. Give that a quick whisk. Add in 3 cups all-purpose flour and mix that in with a wooden spatula. Add in 1 Tbsp. flour until the dough is no longer sticky. Knead the dough with your hands for about 3 minutes. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.

2. Meanwhile, make the lavender and lemon infused filling. Mix together 1/3 cup white sugar, and the zest from 1 lemon. Using clean hands, mix that together until it’s fully combined. Next add in 2 tsp. culinary lavender and mix that again. Add in 1/2 cup softened butter, and using a spoon, mix that until everything is combined. Set aside, for now.

3. Once risen, lightly dust your work surface with flour and turn the dough out onto the surface. Roll out the dough into a 17 x 10 rectangle. Evenly spread out the filling, and lengthwise, roll it up. With dental floss, cut the roll into 8 even rolls.

4. Place the rolls into a 9×13 pan, cover with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes. Once risen, brush the rolls with the remaining 1 Tbsp. melted butter. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Let the rolls cool for about 15 minutes.

5. While cooling, make the frosting. In a medium sized bowl with a hand mixer, beat together 4 Tbsp. softened butter, 4 oz. softened cream cheese, 1 Tbsp. lemon juice, 1 tsp. culinary lavender, and 1 tsp. vanilla extract. Slowly beat in 1 cup of powdered sugar and mix until combined. Optionally, you can also add in some purple food dye.

6. Spread the frosting over the slightly warm lemon lavender sweet rolls and enjoy!
