Classic French Toast

Description

Crispy on the outside, with a rich custardy inside! It’s the Best French Toast you’ll ever have! If you’re looking for an easy Christmas morning breakfast, then make this! You won’t regret it.

Ingredients

-4 large eggs

-1 cup milk

-2 tsp. vanilla extract (or a vanilla bean pod)

-2 Tbsp. brown sugar

-1/4 tsp. salt

-1 tsp. ground cinnamon

-1/2 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg

-1 bread loaf (like brioche, challah, or pretty much any type you have on hand!)

-2 Tbsp. butter (for greasing pan)

Instructions

1. Thinly slice the two ends off your bread loaf. Then thickly cut the load into 8 even slices, each about 1 inch thick.

2. Transfer the slices to a baking sheet, and let them sit out overnight (uncovered), or if you need it right away, bake it in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for 10 minutes.

3. To make the custard, crack 4 large eggs into a shallow dish, and whisk until fully beaten. Make sure no lumps of egg whites remain.

4. Now, add in 1 cup of milk, 2 Tbsp. brown sugar, 1 tsp. ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg, and lastly 2 tsp. vanilla extract. Whisk that all together.

5. Heat a griddle or skillet over medium heat, and add in 2 Tbsp. of butter. Take one slice of bread, and dip it into the custard. About 10 seconds per side.

6. Cook for 2 minutes, then flip and cook another 2 minutes on the other side.

7. Stack it up as high as you’d like, and top with your favorite toppings! Enjoy!

Notes

While whisking the custard, it may seem like a lot of cinnamon, but you want that, because cinnamon equals flavor.

If you are not serving it right away, you can put it in the oven at 200 degrees, for about 10 minutes, or until you’re ready to serve.
