Description

This Classic New Orleans treat, Beignets are sweet, pillowy donuts, topped with a generous dusting of powdered sugar and honey! They are actually pretty simple to make, and everyone will absolutely love these adorable powdered sugar beignets!

Ingredients

Units Scale

1/2 cup warm water (110F)

1/3 cup white sugar, divided

3 tsp. active dry yeast

1 cup warm milk (100F)

4 Tbsp. butter, melted

1 large egg

1/2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. vanilla extract

4 cups all-purpose flour

Vegetable Oil, for frying

Powdered Sugar + Honey, for topping

Instructions

1. To a large bowl, add in 1/2 cup warm water, 2 Tbsp. of white sugar, and 3 tsp. active dry yeast. Whisk that, then let it rise for 5-10 minutes. Now, add in the remaining sugar, 1 cup warm milk, 4 Tbsp. melted butter, 1 large egg, 1/2 tsp. salt, and 1 tsp. vanilla extract. Whisk that until combined.

2. Add in 4 cups all-purpose flour and mix until a rough dough comes together. If it’s too sticky, you may need to add some more flour. Now, knead the dough with your hands for about 2 minutes. The dough should be soft. Place in a lightly greased bowl, and cover with plastic wrap. Let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

3. Once risen, roll out the dough out to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut about 15 beignets. You can also make more if you’d like them smaller. Fill a pot with vegetable oil, and heat it till it reaches 375F.

4. Once the oil is at 375F, cook your beignets. How many you can cook at a time depends on your pot size. Cook for 2 minutes, flipping halfway. Let them cool on a plate with paper towels, while frying the rest.

5. Once done frying, dust powdered sugar over your beignets and drizzle on some honey!

6. Enjoy!
